Terms of Service
Effective date:13 October 2026
These terms are the contract between you and us for using Junie: the browser extension, the web app, the mobile app and this website. Please read them before you create an account. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.
1. Who we are
- Vít Vintrlík, trading as Junie

- Registered in the Czech Trade Register (živnostenský rejstřík)

2. What Junie is
Junie helps you learn Japanese from shows you watch on Netflix and Crunchyroll. The browser extension makes words in Japanese subtitles clickable. When you click one, it shows an explanation of that word in its line, generated by an AI model, with pronunciation audio. You can save words to decks and review them in the web app.
- The extension works in the desktop Chrome browser, on
netflix.comandcrunchyroll.comonly. - You need your own subscription to the streaming service. Junie gives no access to any show.
- When a platform has no Japanese subtitles for an episode, Junie looks for them in free public sources. Some episodes have none, and a track from a public source can be out of sync or occasionally belong to a different episode.
- Explanations and audio are generated by AI models from OpenAI and Google. See section 7.
3. Price and the Full plan
Price
The Full plan costs $6.99 a month, tax included, charged in US dollars. It renews automatically every month at the same price until you cancel. There are no other fees. You subscribe in the Junie web app, where Paddle is the seller.
Without a subscription, your account has a one-time allowance of 40 word explanations and 200 pronunciation clips, which does not renew; once it is used up, those features stop working for your account. The Full plan includes 2,000 of each every calendar month. The words you already saved and your reviews keep working either way.
You can cancel at any time from Manage subscription in the web app's Settings, in Paddle's customer portal, or at paddle.net. The Full plan stays on until the end of the month you have paid for. We will never charge you unless you subscribe yourself.
Who sells the Full plan
Paddle.com Market Ltd (Paddle.com Inc. for buyers in the United States) sells the Full plan to you as our reseller and merchant of record. Your purchase is governed by Paddle'sBuyer Terms andRefund Policy. We provide the service itself under these terms.
How you subscribe
- Open the Full plan page in the web app.
- Read the summary and select Continue to payment; Paddle's checkout opens.
- Enter your details and confirm the order in Paddle's checkout.
The contract for the Full plan is concluded when Paddle confirms your payment. You can correct anything you typed in Paddle's checkout before you confirm, and closing the checkout cancels the order.
Withdrawal
- If you are a consumer, you can withdraw from the Full plan within 14 days of your first payment, without giving a reason.
- The Full plan starts as soon as you pay. If you withdraw, Paddle refunds your first payment in full, however much of the plan you have already used.
- Withdraw in Paddle's customer portal, which you can open from Manage subscription in the web app's Settings, or at paddle.net.
- The right covers your first payment only, not later monthly renewals.
Refunds
The unused part of your current month is refunded if we end your contract, closeJunie, or change it in a way that makes it worse for you. Nothing is refunded when you cancel, or when you delete your account yourself, apart from a withdrawal as described above. See our Refund Policy.
4. Your account
- The contract is formed when you create your account by signing in with Google. There is nothing to type, so there are no input errors to correct.
- If you are under 18, you need the permission of a parent or guardian.
- One account per person. Keep your Google account secure; anything done through yourJunie account counts as done by you.
- These terms are available in English on this page at all times. We keep every version, and you can ask us for the version you agreed to.
5. How long the contract lasts and how it ends
The contract lasts until you or we end it.
- If you have a Full subscription, deleting your account also cancels it, immediately. Deleting your account does not refund the rest of a month you have paid for.
- You can end it at any time, without giving a reason, by deleting your account in the web app's Settings or by writing to us. SeeDelete your account.
- We can end it by giving you at least 30 days' notice by email, for a serious reason such as closing the service.
- We can suspend or close your account without notice only if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if the law requires it. We will tell you why, and you can contest the decision by writing to us.
- If we close Junie altogether, we will give you at least 30 days' notice and a way to export your saved words.
6. Using Junie fairly
Junie is for your own personal language learning. Please do not:
- use it for anything unlawful or to infringe anyone's rights;
- attempt to break into, overload or disrupt Junie or reach another person's account;
- scrape or bulk-download from Junie, or access it other than through our apps;
- get around the usage allowance, for example with several accounts;
- resell Junie or its explanations, or use the explanations to train AI models;
- use the AI features in breach ofOpenAI's usage policies orGoogle's generative AI prohibited use policy.
7. AI explanations
Every explanation, reading, translation and pronunciation clip is generated automatically by an AI model and is not checked by a person. It is a study aid. It can be wrong, for example by missing a nuance or misreading a conjugation, so check anything important against a dictionary, a textbook or a teacher. It is not a certified translation or professional advice. You may use the explanations for your own study.
Where a word appears on Jonathan Waller's JLPT vocabulary lists, its JLPT level comes from those lists instead of the AI. The lists are used under a Creative Commons Attribution licence, in the form published at github.com/stephenmk/yomitan-jlpt-vocab.
8. Your saved words
The words you save and your decks are yours. You allow us to store and process them only to provide Junie to you, including through the providers named in our Privacy Policy. That permission ends when you delete your account. A card you remove is hidden from you and kept until then.
Nothing you save is shown to other users. Do not store unlawful content. If we are told that your account holds unlawful content, we may remove it, and we will tell you what we removed and why. You can contest that decision by writing to us.
Users and authorities can contact us at[email protected], in English or Czech, including to report unlawful content.
9. Streaming services and subtitles
Junie is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Netflix or Crunchyroll. Those names are their owners' trademarks and are used only to say where Junie works. You use each streaming service under its own terms. Junie does not bypass any access control and does not download or store video or audio.
Streaming services change how their players work without notice. When that happens,Junie may stop working on that service until we adapt it. Subtitles and dialogue belong to their owners; Junie claims no rights in them and grants you none.
10. Our software
The Junie apps, design and name belong to us. We give you a personal, non-transferable permission to use them under these terms, for as long as the contract lasts.
11. Changes to Junie and to these terms
- We improve and change Junie over time. If a change makes the service noticeably worse for you, we will tell you at least 30 days in advance, and you can end the contract before it takes effect.
- If we change these terms, we will email you the new version at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you do not agree, you can end the contract before then at no cost. If you keep using Junie after that date, the new terms apply.
12. Responsibility
We are responsible to you as the law provides, and nothing in these terms limits your rights under consumer law. We are not responsible where an extraordinary, unforeseeable and insurmountable obstacle beyond our control prevents us from providing Junie.
13. Complaints
You have the legal rights that apply when a digital service is faulty. If something does not work as these terms describe, write to[email protected] with what happened. We will confirm your complaint by email, resolve it within a reasonable time, and confirm the outcome by email.
14. Out-of-court dispute resolution
If you are a consumer and we cannot resolve a dispute between us, you can turn to the Czech Trade Inspection Authority (Česká obchodní inspekce), which handles out-of-court resolution of consumer disputes:coi.gov.cz/informace-o-adr. You must have raised the matter with us first, and apply within one year of doing so. The Czech Trade Inspection Authority also supervises our compliance with consumer protection law.
We do not follow any code of conduct.
15. Governing law and courts
Czech law governs these terms. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country where you live. You can bring a claim against us in the Czech Republic or in the courts where you live; we can bring a claim against you only where you live.
