Junie Support

Something not working, or just stuck? Everything you need is on this page, and if it is not, write to us.

[email protected] — we read every message and reply within a couple of working days.

Getting started

  1. Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Sign in with Google. Click the Junie icon in your toolbar and choose sign in. Google is the only sign-in method, so there is no password to create or forget.
  3. Open a show on a supported platform and start watching.
  4. Click any word in the subtitles. Junie explains it. Save the ones you want to keep.
  5. Review in the dashboard — saved words come back on their own schedule, grouped by the show you found them in.

Where Junie works

Junie currently supports Netflix and Crunchyroll.

Other platforms are not supported yet. If Junie does nothing on a site that is not in that list, it is not broken — support for that platform simply does not exist yet.

Junie needs your own subscription to whatever you are watching. It does not provide access to any content and does not replace a subscription.

Plans and billing

  • A free account gets 40 word explanations, once. The Full plan gets 2,000 every month.
  • You subscribe to the Full plan in the Junie web app; Paddle is the seller.
  • Manage or cancel it in Paddle's customer portal, which you reach from Manage subscription in the web app's Settings, or at paddle.net.
  • Billing questions, receipts, refunds and withdrawals are handled by Paddle, our reseller and merchant of record: use paddle.net or the links in Paddle's emails. Our Refund Policy explains the rules.
  • Everything else about Junie itself, such as it not working or a word looking wrong, comes to us at [email protected].

Common problems

Junie does not appear on the page

  • Confirm you are on Netflix or Crunchyroll — those are the only supported platforms.
  • Confirm subtitles are turned on in the player. Junie reads the subtitle track; with subtitles off there is nothing to make clickable.
  • Reload the page. The extension attaches when the player loads, and a page left open through a navigation can miss it.
  • Confirm the extension is enabled at chrome://extensions.

Nothing happens when I click a word

  • Check you are signed in — click the Junie icon to confirm.
  • Check that Click to explain is switched on in the extension's settings.
  • If you have been clicking a lot, you may have used up your allowance of explanations. A free account's allowance is one-time and does not renew; the Full plan's renews every month.

"No Japanese subtitles for this episode"

Junie looks for a Japanese subtitle track in three places, in order: the one the platform itself provides, one we have already found before, then free public sources.

When all three come up empty, Junie tells you so rather than showing you a guess. That message is Junie working correctly. A wrong subtitle line produces a confidently wrong explanation, which is worse than an honest gap.

This is most common on newly released episodes, and often resolves later as public sources catch up.

The subtitles are out of sync

Junie aligns sourced subtitle tracks to the episode automatically. Alignment is not perfect, and a track can land slightly off. Reload the episode to have it try again.

Sign-in fails or loops

  • Allow pop-ups for the sign-in window.
  • Try a different Google account if you have several signed in.
  • Strict third-party cookie blocking or a privacy extension can break the sign-in handshake; allow learnwithjunie.com and try again.
  • Still stuck? Write to us with the browser and the extension version.

My saved words are missing

Saved words live on your account, not in your browser, so they follow you across devices. If a deck looks empty, confirm you are signed into the same Google account you saved them with.

Does Junie download anything to my computer?

No. The subtitles arrive as lines of text, the same way the rest of the page does. Nothing is saved to your computer, installed or run.

Privacy, in one paragraph

Junie stores the words you save and the subtitle line each came from. It runs no analytics, no tracking and no advertising, and it cannot see anything you watch that you do not click on. The full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account and everything in it from inside Junie. Instructions are at Delete your account.

Reporting a bug

Write to [email protected] and include:

  • which platform and, if you can share it, which show and episode
  • what you expected and what happened instead
  • your browser and version
  • the Junie extension version, from chrome://extensions

Screenshots help more than anything else.
