Delete your Junie account
You can delete your Junie account yourself, at any time, without asking us and without giving a reason.
How
- Open the Junie dashboard at https://app.learnwithjunie.com and sign in.
- Go to Settings.
- Choose Delete account.
- Confirm.
That is the whole process. Your account is deleted the moment you confirm, unless Paddle is unreachable (see below); there is no waiting period and no confirmation email to chase.
If you have a Full subscription, deleting your account also cancels it, immediately. The rest of a month you have paid for is not refunded, apart from a withdrawal within 14 days of your first payment, which Paddle handles.
If you have ever opened checkout, we first check with Paddle that nothing will charge you again. If we cannot reach Paddle, or Paddle cannot cancel your subscription, we delete nothing and you can try again later, so you are never charged for an account that no longer exists.
What gets deleted
Everything of yours, at once:
- your account record — email, display name, and the Google identifier you signed in with
- every word you saved, with its subtitle line, translation, gloss and notes
- every deck and every card, including your progress on each one
- your entire study history — every review session and every confirmation you made
- every active session, on every device, so you are signed out everywhere immediately
This is a hard delete, not a deactivation. Your data is erased from our live database the moment you confirm, apart from the short deletion record described below, and it cannot be undone. If you sign up again later with the same Google account, you start from zero.
Backups
We back up our database continuously so we can recover from an incident. What you delete stays in those backups until they expire, at most 5 weeks later. Backups are only ever used to restore Junie after an incident, never to read or reuse your data.
If we ever have to restore a backup, we first delete again every account deleted since that backup was made, so a restore never brings your deleted account back.
What is not deleted, and why
Junie keeps two caches that belong to no user and are linked to nobody:
- a dictionary of word forms and readings — reference data, the same for everyone
- pronunciation audio, stored against a hash of the text spoken
Neither carries an owner, neither can be traced back to you, and neither tells anyone that you ever used Junie. Once your rows are gone, nothing in them is your personal data.
They are shared across everyone using Junie, which is the point: your deletion is complete for you and changes nothing for anyone else.
We also keep a deletion record: your account's ID and the time you deleted it — no email, no name, nothing else. It exists only so that a backup restore can never bring your account back, which the law requires of us (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR), and it is erased after 5 weeks, once no backup can still hold your account. If we restore a backup within those 5 weeks, it is kept for 5 weeks from the restore instead. When you delete your account yourself, the deletion is also noted in our server logs, which are erased after 30 days.
If you have already uninstalled Junie
You do not need to reinstall anything. Go to https://app.learnwithjunie.com, sign in with the same Google account, and follow the steps above.
Uninstalling the extension removes Junie from your browser but does not delete your account, because your saved words live on your account rather than in your browser — which is what lets them follow you to a new device.
Removing Junie's access to your Google account
Deleting your Junie account ends our side of it. To also revoke Junie's access from Google's side, go to your Google Account permissions and remove Junie.
Revoking access there stops you signing in, but on its own it does not delete your Junie data. Delete the account first, then revoke.
If you cannot do it yourself
Locked out, or the button is not working? Write to [email protected] from the email address on the account and ask us to delete it. We will confirm it is you, delete everything above, and reply to confirm — within 30 days at the outside, and usually the same week.
This is your right under Article 17 of the GDPR, and the Privacy Policy covers your other rights alongside it.
